Ninjutsu True or false?

If ninjutsu schools today are fake then let me know why the 34th Generation Grand Master to the Togakure Ryu Ninjutsu is still living in Japan and why His Instructor the 33rd Genration Grand Master died Just several Years ago. I started to do resaerch in the Late 70%26#039;s when I was a child and came across a book by Andrew Adams called NINJA the invisible assassins where he enterviews Dr. Massaaki Hatsumi who holds lineage in 9 traditions and I now have not 1 but 2 instructors certified by him 1 in California and 1 in NYC. If they are phonies please tell me how to know. Otherwise given Dr. Hatsumi%26#039;s lineage and the fact that he is a national treasure in Japan and his instructor Toshitsugu Takamatsu who earned the title Last True Living Ninja befor his Death they are legitimate. Please bear in mind that I have known of charlatans who claim to teach real ninjutsu but don%26#039;t and in fact do teach a made up system of their own.|||Hi there

Here are a few things to look out for.

1. All members of the Bujinkan should be in possession of a registration card which is renewed every year.

2. All certificates both Kyu and Dan grades come directly from Hastumi and are signed by him. All other certificates issued under a club name i.e. California ninjutsu etc are not valid and will not be recognised. This is Ninjutsu there are no western organisations don鈥檛 accept certificates from them.

3. Instructors in the Bujinkan are only instructors once they reach 5th Dan. They then must register and obtain a Shioshi kai membership card and certificate. Other low ranking instructors below 5th dan can still grade students but under the guidance of a 5th dan. Lower grade instructors go under the name of shidoshi ho%26#039;s like me.

Other than requesting to see instructors registration cards and certificates it can be difficult to confirm instructor鈥檚 credentials without knowing what you鈥檙e looking for. I must also point out that this art is not a single school but a malgamation of 9. Its not like finding a TKD or Judo school where one instructor holds all the answers. The best shidoshi%26#039;s train in Japan every couple of years. So a good teacher will be able to demostrate techniques from the 9 schools with good understanding of koshi, koppo, jutai and dakentai jutsu as well as good weapon knowledge of the happo hiken. Remember ninjutsu is only a very small piece of what we do.

There are other organizations that teach ninjutsu such as the Jinenkan, Genbukan and the off shoot Toshindo but certificates by these groups are not recognised by the soke. However this doesn鈥檛 mean their teachings are not legit. However by doing a little research and training you will soon find out that the best two groups that stick to the original ryu ha are the Bujinkan and Jinenkan.

There are lots of con artists in this art. In fact this art does attract some rather strange nut jobs which is a real shame as all these nutters do is spread a negative image.

Do your home work before joining any club if you have any doubts then leave and find another. They key to a good shidoshi is that he will have and be able to obtain all the correct documentation and will be following Hatsumis theme for the year.

You can also try kutaki no mura%26#039;s web page and ask a question about an instructor or try to locate one in your area. This is one of the best web forums as it is run by high ranking shidoshis. But dont ask silly questions about ninjas as your account will get deleted. Its not like the martial arts section of yahoo answers. ;-)

Last but not least. There are no more Ninjas. Anyone claiming to be one is a fantasist. We train in Taijutsu the art of Hatsumi. The only man who could call himself a ninja is hatsumi himself.

Best wishes

Idai

Bujinkan shidoshi ho.|||Ninjitsu is not fake, but like you stated there are many charlatans. Some may say Dr. Hatsumi does not teach ninjitsu because he has changed it to fit the times. Another reason would be that certain techniques have been forgotten, or fallen into disuse. This is often caused by a technique no longer being appropriate or feasible. Ninjitsu is real, it is still around, and despite the many detractors of fakes, is actually gaining popularity.|||Ninjutsu is real but there are very few REAL dojos left. There are many mcdojos in the world and people like to make ninjutsu mcdojos cause its popoular.|||If you%26#039;re talking about the naruto sort, then it%26#039;s all crap. But if you%26#039;re talking about the traditional old old type, then it%26#039;s quite true. Ninjutsu is just a name, like Karate and Judo and the other sort of stuff. It%26#039;s just like a style. They teach you all the stuff you need to know to be a ninja (at least the stuff you would need to know if you were a ninja in japan like hundreds or tens of years ago...) Like how to run without ANY noise and how to make small bombs and use weapons like katanas and how to throw projectiles and how to disguise yourself well in places like the forests.|||I completely respect the art of Ninjutsu, and would never call it %26quot;fake%26quot;. I believe it would be a great martial art to study, but here are a few things I would question. Number 1: Is the %26quot;Americanized%26quot; Ninjustu anywhere near what it really was traditionally? No. I really believe that this art was so secret and guarded, it would never be fully %26quot;opened up%26quot; to even the %26quot;certified%26quot; American instructors. It%26#039;s like a cooking recipe you get from someone when certain things are left out intentionally! Number 2: Traditional Ninja%26#039;s were trained as secret assassins - now some of these techniques are still taught today, but come on, are they really put to the test anymore? And are these methods still practical in current times? I fully respect this art, and I feel a trained %26quot;Ninja%26quot; would be one hell of a fighter, but I really feel that what we call Ninjustu today is a watered-down, Americanized version of the real mysteries of the Ninja.|||The Answer is what ever Chuck Norris says it is!
