I%26#039;ve met some of the Shihan from AU at some various Tai Kai%26#039;s over the years....but I can%26#039;t remember any names to make any particular reccomendations for you.

Now, what we%26#039;re doing this year is a school called Kukishinden Ryu Happohikenjutsu. It%26#039;s a field-combat Samurai bujutsu ryu-ha, not a Ninpo ryu-ha. So what you%26#039;ll be seeing is simply not ninpo, even though it is in our overall curriculum....but you%26#039;ll have to ask the Shihan for personal lessons in Togakure Ryu Ninpo Taijutsu if that%26#039;s your sole interest as it simply will not be studied this year.|||Ninjitsu is worthless in real life situations, you are better off learning TKD, some form of kung fu, or muay thai.
Ninjitsu is an old Japanese martial art that focuses on small spaces and the weapons available. In the day of ninja, weapons were outlawed except the military. The kama was used to cut crops, the quarterstaff was used to carry buckets of water on the shoulders, ect. Thats the equilivent of using pencils or tire irons or hammers. Besides, if ninjas were still around they would just shoot someone with a gun.
Also, ninjitsu was emphasized on close quarter combat. Most ninjas carried short swords because they are easier to use when they got trapped in alley ways or somewhere similar with little to no space, something that unfortunatelly was all too common. Most fights today wont be in a back alley or a hallway, they will be on the street or a football field.|||yes, yes I know|||check out this website www.winjutsu.com, you can also checkout www.genbukan.org|||search in yellow pages or yahoo local. it usually works if there is a school near. if you cant find ninjutsu, try ninjitsu or bujinkan or taijutsu. those are basically the same things. bujinkan is run by soke masaki hatsumi. he is ninja pro

You can learn a modern day variant based on the methods of the historical ninja. You need to look for a registered shidoshi of either the bujinkan, genbukan or jinenkan. There is also the SKH Quest centres in the US but to be honest i would only look at the Bujinkan or Jinenkan as these two stick to the original ryu ha. Finding a good instructor is difficult in this art.
You will find out like most of the people training that really the only way to progress is to train in Japan as often as you can.
Best wishes

There are other styles that people have created based on what they think the style of the ninja was. You can find them by searching for Ninja schools, Ninjitsu, and other various spellings and keywords. If you are willing to pay the money to learn it, someone is willing to take your money to teach it.|||TO be honest it is a dying martial art. If you really want to teach it and keep it going go to japan and learn from the masters. Then come back and help people learn it for real in the us. When the student is ready the teacher will appear.

Has anyone studied ninjutsu at Bujinkan Dojo, by Masaaki Hatsumi?
If so what%26#039;s it like?
What are the training fees?
Whats the training schedule like?|||Of course, most Bujinkan people try to go to the hombu to train. It is an experience not to be missed. Training with Hatsumi sensei costs between 3000 and 3500 yen, depending on the location. He has 3 classes a week. There are classes with various Japanese and foreign shihan throughout the week.

Does any one knows good Ninjutsu school in the world???
I am very interested in Ninjutsu. I want to know where can I learn it in the world? Further is there any championship of this Martial Art where I can participate after learinng it?|||There are several different schools of thought on Ninjutsu. The first, is the Bujinkan. They are the most widely recognized.
The second it Genbukan. I%26#039;ve trained in it and compared to Bujinkan it is very stiff in terms of attitude and how you move. Very formal.
A third on is Jinenkan, headed by Manaka Fumio, one of Hatsumi%26#039;s former students. Although less well known, it concentrates a LOT on the basics of the art.
The last one I know of is Stephen K. Hayes%26#039; Toshindo. IT is supposedly the modern version of Ninjutsu, made more accessible to Western people. The best thing for you to do is type in one of these schools and your location into google.
Toshindo is spreading and we%26#039;ve got a school up here in Canada in New Brunswick. Best bet for finding one is probably Bujinkan.
As to your other question. Ninjutsu is not an art you can do tournaments with. In fact, it is actively discouraged. The art as a whole is designed to protect you by ending any altercation as quickly as possible. Tournaments don%26#039;t lend themselves to it.|||Google bujinken and search for a class near you. Ninjutsu - what is the name of techniques used on opponents, forcing them to sleep attacking vital points ???
ATEMI WAZA/SUTEMI WAZA/CHIN NA
ATEMI WAZA is the study of vital point striking more to set up a throw or restraining submission hold and is contained as an add on in many karate systems..SUTEMI WAZA is the study of technique whose only purpose is to kill usually only seen in military training.
CHIN NA teaches the vital points and many locks restraints and is an addition to many kung fu systems.
You have to realize many of these points are difficult to get at in a fast and furious fight and on some people with hi pain thresh holds don%26#039;t work at all or the effect is so delayed they may as well not work.

Whats the difference between ninjutsu, taijutsu and jujitsu?
well?|||Ninjutsu is the martial art of Ninjas. It does not work with combatives as much as stealth. It tries to find a silent ways to take care of opponents.
Taijutsu is an umbrella name for Japanese unarmed martial arts. it means %26quot;body art/skill%26quot; and thus can refer to a wider verity of martial arts.
Jujutsu is a martial art that was developed so that unarmed and unarmored people could fight armed and armored. It uses throws, joint locks and pins. Derivatives of this are Judo and Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

As for Ninjutsu and Jujitsu, there%26#039;s not a whole lot of differences. They are very similar. A jiu-jitsu practitioner usually is not taught how to make poisons, or to scale a wall, or to use concealed or hidden weaponry or how to torture or kidnap someone, etc. etc.

One may not even be able to tell the difference between the two unless they know what their looking at. Many styles of Ninjutsu have strong, deep stances and smooth, flowing Taijutsu. It also incorporates rolls more than any other martial art, stealth, evasion, and escape.|||The fighting techniques of Ninjitsu are called Ninpo. A jiu-jitsu practitioner usually is not taught how to make poisons, or to scale a wall, or to use concealed or hidden weaponry or how to torture or kidnap someone, etc. etc.
The fighting techniques of a Ninja probably incorporate a lot of jiu-jitsu, but then the Ninja modifies his jiu-jitsu into %26#039;dirty fighting%26#039;: blowing dust or soot into the eyes of his opponent, throwing small stars or dirks at him, pulling a chain out of a spear, and the like.|||Ninjutsu is Ninja stuff (yeah ppl think they are ninja%26#039;s it doesnt work)

Martial Arts Question. Is Ninjutsu any good for practical self defense or is it just sword or ninja stars.?
I want something practical but I don%26#039;t mind a traditional martial art.I want to find something that has a blend of weapons and unarmed combat.|||Hi there
This is a question that is actually split up into two parts. Is Ninjutsu practical for self defense? Well the answer is yes and no and sort of?
You see pure ninjutsu what is taught today comes from the togakure ryu school. It isn%26#039;t an art that was designed for modern combat as most of the kata taught involve biken jutsu (sword), Senban and the wearing of shuko. The kata are a collection of techniques used for evasion from an attacker and are not designed for you to engage in combat. This is the nature of ninjutsu and is what it was designed for. Its not a fighting art but the art of escape.
Now for the second part. Is Ninpo taijutsu practical for self defense? The answer is yes because it employs a mix of 9 other schools 6 being jujutsu schools two of which are koryu (traditional samurai schools) and 3 ninjutsu schools. Taijutsu is similar to conventional jujutsu and Aikido styles that are practiced today.
It is true there are hundreds of bad schools but if your lucky you may find a good one in your area. If you want to train in this style my only advice is to seek out a school run by a 5th dan or above. The best ones will be registered shidoshi%26#039;s with the Bujinkan or Jinenkan. Its not like learning modern budo. The best instructors train in japan annually. Its one of the requirements of being a shidoshi.
As for a blend of weapons ninpo taijutsu has it all! Differnet lengths of katana, Bo, spears, chain weapons, fighting in armour etc. The only other art that comes close to covering the same amount of material is Okinawan Kobudo jutsu.
Always make sure the art suits you. Dont make the same mistake many do and expect ninjutsu to be kickboxing etc. If you want to train in kickboxing then perhaps thats what you should do.
Best wishes
idai|||Most ninjitsu schools now days are kind of a joke, at least to my knowledge, and are few and far between anyway.
Hapkido would definetly be a good choice as stated above. There is another korean art called Kuk Sool Wan that resembles Kung Fu more then TKD that pretty extensive weapons training. Most Okinawin styles of karate train with weapons, both how to use them and how to defend as well as empty hand. You might also want to look into some of the phillipine fighting arts, like Kali and escrima, as they have very nasty practical weapons work.
More important then style look for the best school in your area. There are already numerous questions and answers here about that, so I wont go into it, but in the end it comes down to the instruction you have had, and how well you have trained. The origins of Ninjutsu go back to China. Are any of those arts still in being practiced in China?
Please don%26#039;t say Shaolin Kung Fu.|||I remember this story coming out in the 1980%26#039;s. I have yet to see any proof that the Chinese had any such training which compares. I DO KNOW that a pretty prominent Wing Chun exponent and business man (at that time publishing a kung fu magazine (%26#039;Real Kung Fu%26#039;) , numerous books on various forms of kung fu, videos and equipment as well as running an international network of Wing Chun schools) called Leung Ting published an article and subsequently a book on %26#039;Chinese ninja%26#039; which he called Vagabonds. I am pretty sure this is fictional presented as truth simply because there was a ninja craze at its highest and he wanted to get into the act.
Bear in mind that there were whole villages which were of the ninja creed and it was a lifetime commitment. I have no doubt that there would have been spies and assassins in ancient China but I am almost certain that there was no ninja type training in the same context as it was developed in Japan. When the Chinese saw the way that kung fu was being replaced in the cinema and video box office by ninja, they decided they should jump on the bandwagon.|||ya it does

Do you know anything about ninjutsu?
If so, what are your thoughts and feelings about ninjutsu? Have you ever attended a class, what did you think of it?
If not, what are your perceptions of ninjutsu?
Ninjutsu is the martial art of the ninja.|||I practiced ninjutsu for many years (as well as other martial arts).
There are many different schools, some very traditional, some very esoteric, some para-military, and finally at least one (the one I practice) well-balanced. Forget about the techniques or weapons, the main difference with other martial arts is that ninjutsu focuses on effectiveness and stealth. No need for stunts or fancy weapons. If hitting quickly with your umbrella is the best way to get rid of your opponent, that is the ninja%26#039;s way.

You need to train under a qualified instructor with hands on teaching skills. Home study is the laughing stock of the martial arts world.
PS. Hatsumi Soke no longer recognizes Hayes as authorized to teach Togakure Ryu Ninjutsu or any other system of his.|||home study ninjutsu?
ive never stepped foot in a dojo, but im pretty sure, you cant learn real ninjutsu from youtube and crap like that.
study at home ninjutsu you gotta be kidding me. your gonna hurt yourself kid, go find a teacher.|||Waste of Money. Seek a qualified instructor under Hatsumi - you going to grapple with yourself? or even worse a untrained friend or sibling?? The best training at home is the punching bag and conditioning and rolling (ukemi)|||Master Hayes is by far the most knowledgeable person out side of Japan. I would however never recommend a home study course from anyone except as a study aid to augment regular one on one training with a master.|||Ha! LOL !!!!home study ninjitsu ! what a riot !

Ninjutsu is a Japanese martial art. Are there any clubs in China?
Hi there
I train with the Bujinkan and have just done a quick search and cant find any. To be honest i wouldn%26#039;t really expect to find any either.
The origins in this art like so many relate back to Chinese arts just like karate does. But where talking origins here. The development, environment and history have shaped the art into what it is today. You can try searching for Bujinkan, Genbukan and Jinenkan clubs in china but i doubt you will find any. Japanese arts in a Chinese country some how i very much doubt it due to the history these countries have between them. Beside if you live in china why would you want to practice a Japanese art when there are so many wonderful traditional arts all around you.
You should be spoiled for choice!
Best wishes

Where can i learn Taijutsu and Ninjutsu !?
I have 13 age and i must and wanna learn taijutsu and ninjutsu where can i learn ?|||Been watching too much naruto?
I like that show btw|||Hi there
You wont get much serious answers asking about ninjutsu or ninjas from any serious martial artists.
Like all things you need to ask the right people to get the right answers.
My advice is to do a search on the following 3 organisations if you seriously want to train.
Try looking for the Bujinkan, Genbukan or Jinekan training groups in your area but forget the rest. Most clubs will not allow you to train until you reach 16 years so you may have to wait a few years.
Taijutsu as it is know today is a real art just like jujutsu or aikido. If you are expecting black masks and throwing stars I%26#039;m afraid you will be very disappointed.

It could be as people living in %26quot;clans%26quot; as specialized espionage experts, it could be that what is referred to as %26quot;ninja%26quot; is actually just samurai trained in espoinage and assasination techniques, or it simply could (the most likely scenario) fall under the banner of %26quot;gremlins%26quot; and %26quot;robin hood%26quot; where a name was attatched to certain actions (sabotage and banditry) and people used the %26quot;name%26quot; to strike fear into people.

Or one of the supposed %26quot;lineage%26quot; people that claim lineage, when that and its sources are highly questionable- as is thier training techniques. It is doubtfull that these are anything.

Can a Ninjutsu expert participate in Mixed Martial Arts?
Hi there
This type of question comes up so many times.
Ok ask your self this why on earth would a bujutsu martial art thats over a thousand years old suddenly be turned into western sports floor wrestling?
Picture this a thousand years ago a ninja assassin putting on a triangular choke to take out a samurai lord followed by the mount!
Come on people use your brains!
If you want to learn MMA go learn that and stop trying to turn ninjutsu into western floor wrestling. Square pegs into round holes just dont go! There seems to be so many confused young people on here who seem to think martial arts are a cocktail of mix n match when it suits their ego or image?
Ninjutsu should be left at being what it is along with aikido and iaido. It wasnt created for sports fighting and should be left to be used as it was ment to be used! Everyone knows what styles work best in the UFC environment so if thats your bag then go train in those arts.
Its like trying to turn iaido into MMA by removing the sword from the equasion?
Pointless school boy questions. Seriously I think its time to move on guys?
Best wishes
idai|||Actually they have and still do to this very day. In the early days of the UFC they had two guys from Robert Bussey%26#039;s Warrior International fight and Robert Bussey was awarded as a pioneer of reality martial arts by the Gracies. The guys from Bussey%26#039;s camp are called Scott Morris and Steve Jennum. Jennum was the only decent one with being the only alternate to win a title in UFC history and losing a fight to former IFL coach Marco Ruas. The only one still doing it and openly saying his style of fighting is Ninjitsu is Hardee Merritt from Stephen Haye%26#039;s To Shin Do Ninjitsu Dojo. There is an organization called SWAN that promotes and sponsors Ninjitsu fighters to fight in local MMA shows in the fighter%26#039;s state as well as hosting their own MMA shows. Then if you want to promote yourself as a professional MMA fighter that uses Ninjitsu you got to do local MMA events to develop a descent fan base for the big promoters at the UFC%26#039;s, WEC%26#039;s, and Elite XC%26#039;s level to even consider having you on their roster. The website a lot of up and coming MMA fighters use is MMA Recruiter.com because they post up and coming MMA events through out the US and have emergency fighter acceptance notifications on their website for fighters looking to make a quick name for themselves. Getting into MMA is hard only if you don%26#039;t have the right sources to help get into the ring to prove your expertise and if you don%26#039;t have the drive to. Especially if you%26#039;re a traditional martial artist that doesn%26#039;t usually train for MMA competition its going to be hard proving to them that you can really fight.|||Yea, if they had training in mma.
They wouldn%26#039;t be able to use there ninjutsu techniques although.

Seriously I think its time to move on guys?

idai|||Actually they have and still do to this very day.

If Bruce Lee had fought against against a Ninjutsu master, what would have happened?
I believe Bruce would have won.|||bruce lee would have kicked a$$...sure ninjitsu is a very powerful martial art but bruce lee developed his own martial art by using his knowledge of many different ones...bruce lee to win and i wouldnt bet a penny against him|||well is true bruce lee was the best, and he invented hes own style, but ninjutsu is about trickery, stealth, and many other thinks i can say, i know ninjutsu, and as much bruce lee knew he would won that fight, this is why? he would fight fair and square and the ninjas dont know the word, well sometimes, not to put us bad. but we use deception. that my opinion and maybe he could won.|||He would%26#039;ve pulled out a .45 and shot the Ninja : P|||It would have been a great fight. Bruce Lee is dead and respected in many martial artists%26#039; heart. No one will know.|||I also like his way, but be honest he was only a 2nd degree BB, your comparing him to a person of study of more than a minimum of 15 years and in an art based soley for a kill.

We must look at reality even when we admire the person in martial arts. Like all martial artists of the film have suffered, a real one kicking their butt. From Van Damn to Seagul. Chuck Norris on the other hand was a real fighter.

That would have been too bad. I would like to see what Bruce would be up to today. He was a hero to a lot of people.
Bruce had not yet reached the pinnacle of skill when he passed away. Imagine what 40 more years could have done to his constantly evolving art.

Does Ninjutsu teaches you Fibre Wire techniques?
I mean does Ninjutsu has choking techniques with small fibre wire or any small wire?|||We don%26#039;t train with fiber wire. The closest thing would be Kusari Fundo Jutsu. A Kusari Fundo is a short chain or rope with weights at the ends. It%26#039;s like the Kusari Gama without the kama.|||I am not sure what you mean by Fiber Wire techniques.
If you are asking if ninjutsu students practice garrote techniques, then the answer is yes. They are not, however, practiced using wire. Usually either the Kusari-fundo (a short weighted chain) or rope are used. Of course, any choking techniques that employ these weapons will work equally well with a piece of wire.|||No. That would actually be too dangerous to train in, i would assume.
We do have the Manriki chain, i think it%26#039;s called. Mainly used for controlling the opponents limbs, though. Locking his shoulder with it, for example. Ninjutsu don%26#039;t do any wire/chain chokes. Wanna choke? do it with your arms.|||rofl!, you mean, how to do it manhunt style?

The reason why they are so hard to find is that it%26#039;s a rich mans martial art. The reason why i say this is because our Shidoshi%26#039;s are expected to train in Japan and attend seminars on a regular basis. So there aren%26#039;t that many good teachers around.
The reason for this is because there is no official governing body outside of Japan like there are with other arts such as Judo or Karate. All our gradings certificates come directly from the source that%26#039;s why it%26#039;s so important to train with a registered teacher.
There are organisations that still teach authentic Ninjutsu they are The Bujinkan, Jinenkan and the Genbukan. There is also the Quest organisation run by Stephen Hayes who teaches a modern application of it. Personally i would try and find a good Shidoshi who is a member of the Bujinkan or Jinenkan as these are the only two organisations that still stick to the original ryu ha kata.
You wont get much information on here about this art. You would be best checking out Kutaki no Mura%26#039;s web page for club locations etc.
You must remember that ninjutsu is only a very small part of what is taught. The rest of the kata we train in comes from other schools of Jujutsu.
If you are expecting black masks and throwing stars then I%26#039;m afraid you will be very disappointed.
But if you can find a good teacher then this is a great art to learn.

The word %26quot;Nin%26quot; means to endure and %26quot;jutsu%26quot; means art so Ninjustu basically means %26quot;The Art of Endurance%26quot;. To be a ninja is to do dirty jobs that no self respecting samurai would do during the japanese medieval times. Good luck. :-)|||Basicaly Ninjutsu isn%26#039;t a martial art you can learn at dojo. the word was use for wide rage of meanings including an assassination and %26quot;secret service%26quot; is most suitable word to describe. It was active Japanese war period Muromachi to Edo era and most westerners are confused or miss understanding about that Ninjas are fighters but as many female ninjas which called Kunoich were war potential, they weren%26#039;t dressed up Ninja costumes you%26#039;ve seen on TV show lol. They were mostly on the road in the disguise of Dancers, hookers and nun. Male ninjas were pretending buddist priest or tradesman. of course they had to have high self diffence skills such as kenjust Jujutsu taijutsu.
Now.... do you still want to learn?|||The reason Ninjutsu isn%26#039;t taught as much is because the schools are hidden from the general public. The only way you can find Ninjutsu is by scouring the countryside. It is taught all over if you look in the right place%26#039;s|||Ninjutsu huh?Do you know much about ninjutsu.Do you want to learn about the form or to learn it, become a black belt and show of to your friends and say that %26quot;I%26#039;m a ninja.%26quot;Most people want to learn it because it is %26quot;cool%26quot;and for the wrong reasons. You learn because you want to learn discipline, martial arts and defense. There not a lot because ninjustsu survived for centuries and many people abandoned it.And it is a very hard form.
Any place in vancouver where i can learn ninjutsu?
any place near van tech school?

i went to ninjutsu.ca and i found a vancouver one, but the last like update was 2006. i emailed them and they havent replied so i assuming it got closed down or something.- please tell me if im wrong
the reason why i choose ninjutsu cuz i dont want to be stuck with little kids|||The links below should help you locate one. Remember that anyone claiming to be an authorized instructor in the Bujinkan should have a white membership card saying Shidoshi-kai fellowship, having a red stamp and a stamp with the current year on it. Licensed instructors will be Shidoshi or Shihan, with a rank of 5th dan or above. You can also ask what year they took their 5th dan test and what it was like (the 5th dan test is called the Sakki test, and involves evading a sword cut from behind while kneeling). Best of luck!

Is Masaaki Hatsumi the unique Ninjutsu traditions heir?
Some say hatsumi is the only perosn who inherited ninjutsu traditions. I do not doubt he is a real Ninjutsu master, the Japanese govertment regards him so. But I don not think he is the only one, it might there be other sokes also, from other traditons or linages.|||please send me a link of a site where i could learn more about this art|||Nice copy %26amp; paste job (above).

Would Krav Maga training be as usefull as Ninjutsu?
I know Krav Maga is self defence, but does it have as much potential as a powerful martial art?|||Look at any Pride fight champion, UFC champion or K-1, MMAs winningest style is the combination of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu/Muay Thai kick boxing. Don%26#039;t worry about Krav or the dead style, Ninjutsu Karate, there are no MMA champions who use these styles. Your butt will be owned by anyone who trains in MMA Brazilian Jiujitsu/MuayThai.|||MMA fighters participate in a sport watched by many people. They have to follow rules - not a lot of rules- but they have to follow rules. I think the UFC has more rules then Pride fighting. When going up against Krav Maga, Systema, or Ninjutsu, those fighters don%26#039;t follow rules. Report Abuse
|||Probably not. Systema triaining would be as useful as Ninjutsu, though.|||I consider Krav Maga a %26quot;Modern Combat%26quot; art, which is good for today%26#039;s needs as is the techniques of NinJitsu. but while I don%26#039;t share Spidertigers view that Ninjitsu is a dead art.
It is still practiced, though not as popularly widespread as other martial arts, or other combat arts, it is still around. He is right that it employed some very %26quot;unsavory%26quot; or bad techniques in the days of feudal Asia.
I believe Ninjitsu has evolved beyond what it was; because it%26#039;s not necessary to know those techniques nor teach them to the public in this day and time, and certainly not good to teach a child for the fact that they may use that knowledge for the wrong reason, however unintentional.
So even if you learn a form of Ninjitsu it can still be as effective as a modern combat art as Krav Maga.|||You want to use Krav Maga to assassinate someone?
or do you want to start teaching Krav Maga and call it Ninjitsu to get more money?
Either way, NO.|||Krav Maga could be considered to be a combat-derived %26quot;art%26quot; if you will. Being used within the Israeli military, it%26#039;s used with a sense of reality. It%26#039;s not overtly-stylized, and it%26#039;s quick and to the point.
The only thing I%26#039;m not huge on with Krav Maga is that it doesn%26#039;t teach you how to avoid combative situations in the first place, and a lot of what they do would likely get you thrown in jail...it%26#039;s by no means whatsoever subtle. An art is an art is an art...but if you don%26#039;t know how to use that art in a non-obvious way, having knowledge of combat can actually hurt you in a court of law.
They also do not teach you how to move out of zones of attack, they meet everything head on with equal and/or greater force.
And while the UFC nuts go nuts over what looks more dangerous...when it comes to the ramifications of a self-defense
situation....obvious and brutal isn%26#039;t always best.
What I respect about the Bujinkan is that it teaches techniques that can turn out brutal....but they%26#039;re subtle as all get out.
It%26#039;s not an art where you get quick promotions....it%26#039;s not an art that you have a million belts in, and it%26#039;s not an art that does a ton of silly Kiai! screaming for no bloody reason....
It%26#039;s an art that teaches survival mentality, combat mentality, and a number of....generally lost elements that transcend just fighting that many martial arts have lost in the dust.

While there are elements of Ninjutsu still existing in certain branches of Japanese Koryu Bujutsu, Yagyu Shinkage Ryu (柳生新陰流) for example headed by the infamous %26quot;sword saint%26quot; Yagyū Muneyoshi Sekishusai (柳生宗厳)....the only existing martial arts system out of Nippon that teaches Ninpo in it%26#039;s entirety is the Bujinkan, headed by Soke (headmaster) Masaaki Hatsumi 初見良昭, who recieved his rank of Soke from Toshitsugu Takamatsu (高松寿嗣) the 33rd Soke of the 9 ryūha lineages. Termed the %26quot;Mongolian Tiger%26quot; due to his active combat experience against Chinese Gung-Fu boxers in China.
Toshitsugu Takamatsu is considered to be the %26quot;last combat ninja%26quot; by the Bujinkan.
According to historical accounts, his family had both samurai class and ninja roots. Toshitsugu Takamatsu studied under various masters of several ryu, and as a result, became the %26quot;only man ever to master all aspects of ninjutsu%26quot;.
When he was still a young man, Takamatsu gained his notoriety by %26quot;singlehandedly stopping a small riot%26quot;. When he was older, he was involved in espionage in Manchuria and, according to Masaaki Hatsumi, was in connection with Motojiro Akashi. Returning from China, he became a Tendai-shū abbot at Mount Hiei.
He also had ties with the Soke of the Hyōhō Niten Ichi-ryū (I%26#039;m not sure which Soke it was : so I%26#039;ll omit a name) founded by the infamous Musashi Miyamoto (宮本 武蔵) and in turn, tied in dual-sword wielding techniques into the Bujinkan compendium...
titled as such (Nito Seiho.)
Takamatsu passed on his knowledge and legacy to Masaaki Hatsumi, who founded the Bujinkan to continue Takamatsu%26#039;s teachings.
The Bujinkan (Warrior Spirit Training Hall or House of the Divine Warrior), or more properly the Bujinkan Dōjō (武神館道場.)
And even with the Bujinkan, only Togakure-ryū Ninpō (戸隠流忍法) is taught openly....but Gyokushin-ryū Ninpō (玉心流忍法), and
Kumogakure-ryū Ninpō (雲隠流忍法) are not.
Bujinkan training :
The training is generally referred to as taijutsu, and is composed of both armed and unarmed methods of fighting. Unarmed methods are broken down into three primary categories, dakentaijutsu (striking forms), jūtaijutsu (grappling forms), and taihenjutsu (body movement skills). Much of the basic taijutsu taught to beginners comes from six primary lineages in the Bujinkan compendium, namely Kotō-ryū, Gyokko-ryū, Shinden Fudō-ryū, Takagi Yōshin-ryū, Kuki Shinden-ryū, and Togakure-ryū.
A large variety of weapons are taught, such as sword (including daito, wakizashi and tanto, bamboo shinai, wooden bokken, iaitō a flexible aluminum replica sword that holds no edge, or swords made by soft modern materials are employed for safety such as padded bokken), staffs of various lengths (bō, jō, hanbō), rope, kusari-fundo (weighted chain), kusarigama (sickle with chain), yari (spear), kamayari (spear with 2 rearward hooking blades), bisento (similar to the naginata), kyoketsu shoge (similar to a kama except it has a dagger point and a rope of several feet attached to an iron ring), jutte (shaped like a sai with just a single prong, at a smaller distance from the shaft of the weapon) tessen (iron fan), naginata (Japanese halberd), kunai (a bladed digging tool), as well various form of shuriken including bo-shuriken and senban shuriken. Weapons are categorized into four primary classes - sticks, blades, flexibles, and projectiles.
Now, the principles of Taijutsu taught for our classical weapons translate into modern firearms as well. An example of this : I%26#039;ve had a concealed carry liscence for years.....but through the principles I was taught via my Shihan, I%26#039;ve learned how to draw/aim/fire and move with the handgun at a much higher peak performance level with more efficiency and accuracy.
18 disciplines of combat taught within the Bujinkan :
Seishin-teki kyōyō (spiritual refinement)
Taijutsu (unarmed combat)
Kyudo (archery)
Ninja ken (sword fighting)
Bōjutsu (stick and staff fighting)
Shurikenjutsu (throwing blades)
Sōjutsu (spear fighting)
Naginatajutsu (naginata fighting)
Kusarigamajutsu (chain weapons)
Kayakujutsu (fire and explosives)
Hensōjutsu (disguise and impersonation)
Shinobi-iri (Stealth and Infiltration methods)
Bajutsu (Horsemanship)
Sui-ren (Training in Water)
Bōryaku (Military Strategy)
Chōhō (Espionage)
Intonjutsu (Escaping and Concealment)
Tenmon (Meteorology)
Chi-mon (Geography)
Nine ryūha lineages of Bujinkan Budō Taijutsu:
Gyokko-ryū Kosshijutsu (玉虎流骨指術)
Kotō-ryū Koppōjutsu (虎倒流骨法術)
Shinden Fudō-ryū Dakentaijutsu (神伝不動流打拳体術)
Takagi Yōshin-ryū Jūtaijutsu (高木揚心流柔体術)
Kuki Shinden-ryū Happō Bikenjutsu (九鬼神伝流八法秘剣術)
Gikan-ryū Koppōjutsu (義鑑流骨法術)
Togakure-ryū Ninpō (戸隠流忍法)
Gyokushin-ryū Ninpō (玉心流忍法)
Kumogakure-ryū Ninpō (雲隠流忍法)
The only 3 of those that are ninjutsu schools are the last 3, and only Togakure-ryu is openly practiced. Soke prefers to keep the others relatively untaught until frankly...you%26#039;re mature enough for them. I think that%26#039;s a safe way of saying it.
There are derivative off-shoot systems called :
Jinenkan (meaning 自然舘 %26quot;Hall of Nature%26quot;), headed by Fumio Manaka (formerly a student of Soke Hatsumi%26#039;s.)
Genbukan (忍法武芸道場、玄武館), meaning %26#039;the place that nurtures the martial artist%26#039;, headed by Shoto Tanemura (formerly a student of Soke Hatsumi%26#039;s.)
Now, when it comes to the Genbukan and the Jinenkan....their claims of validity have been highly disputed.
Supposedly, Shoto Tanemura has been claiming to have obtained Menkyo Kaiden, a Japanese term meaning %26quot;license of total transmission%26quot; of ranking in several schools within (and outside of) the Bujinkan compendium : Kotō-ryū Koppōjutsu (虎倒流骨法術) and Shinden Fudō-ryū Dakentaijutsu (神伝不動流打拳体術) for example.
As stated above, these claims have been greatly disputed and dismissed by Soke Hatsumi.
That%26#039;s about all I have on the subject....I hope it helps.
try looking in the %26quot;yellow pages%26quot; section of http://www.winjutsu.com for a Dojo directory.
Now, there are a lot of flakes within our art....sadly, but there are a ton quality instructors as well...just do your homework.
ninpo ikkan!
Ryan|||Ninjutsu is a dead art get over it! That%26#039;s like as ask %26quot;which is more effective on battle field, Navy Seals or ninja?%26quot; Today it%26#039;s almost impossible to sneak around in the suit without raising some suspicous or causing alarms. Ninjitsu is for those people who can%26#039;t keep up in regular martial arts class and can%26#039;t get into military. They take it up and hope that one day they will be a badass.

We have light, camerecorder, high rise apartment/building, and more. So it defeate the purpose to learn a dead art. If you want to be stealthy and sneaky then go into military special force.
Ninjitsu is for those people who can%26#039;t keep up in regular martial arts class and can%26#039;t get into military. They take it up and hope that one day they will be a badass.
Krav Maga is very effective. Why would Israel military use it if a dead art (Ninjutsu) is so effective? That make absolutely no sense.
Oh also visit www.bullshido.net and see what those people say. They%26#039;re people with college education, been in military special force, studies and train all over the world, and more. So they will know more than what most loser kids here who can%26#039;t make it on their high school chess team with hope that Ninjutsu will turn them into next batman or something.|||Style is not important.
Quality and frequency of training are more important.
I also feel that ninjitsu is a dead martial art. The secrets of Ninjitsu never left Japan.
I feel anyone teach it should be highly scrutinized as they are most likely fraudulent.
Also, ninjitsu is a style that involved disguises, sneaking around, scaling walls, poisoning, assassination, self-termination,...why would you want to know this?|||Technically it is a martial art. It is more modern version and depends on the teacher (like any martial art) what you get out of it.
Is it against the law to do ninjutsu in England?
is it against the law in england to do ninjutsu my bro said it might be cuz its such a deadly martial art.|||No, there%26#039;s been a myth out there for ever that ninjutsu is so deadly that it%26#039;s outlawed everywhere. The fact is you can find it in most major cities across the planet these days.
Look for Bujinkan affiliated schools to maximize your chances of not getting suckered.
If you have a ninjutsu school in your area check it out... but check out other martial arts available and pick the one that is taught the best. Good luck.|||Hi there
No its not against the law. I have during my training experienced many strange things mostly the type of individual this art seems to attract but religious problems too. Our club got booted out of a training hall by the local parish church many years ago because they said it wasnt very christian? Thankfully we now operate from a privately owned dojo! :-)
So the real problem is close minded people or the un informed. Many people already have a deep implanted idea of what they think this art is? The simple fact is its no different to koryu jujutsu or aikido when practiced by people who really know their taijutsu but they are in short supply outside of noda!
Due to UK law getting your hands on some of the weapons is a major problem because of the offensive weapons act! Weapons like the fundo, senban, shogee, shuko and more recently the bog standard katana are all banned in the UK. You have the football hooligans to thank for that back in the1980%26#039;s!
Thankfully you can now buy soft foam, rubber or wooden equivalents to train with! To be honest no one really needs to have a real pair of shuko anyway! The foam ones do just fine!
As for it being deadly! A knife and fork is deadly in the wrong hands?
Peoples lack of knowledge regarding what this art is cause more problems than anything else! TV and the ninja nutters just make matters worse.
Most of the serious practitioners no longer call it ninjutsu because they are fed up of the problems it causes. For this reason the best clubs advertise classes simply as taijutsu!
Best wishes

I doubt that it is illegal anywhere as long as you act responsibly.|||No, Ninjutsu is not illegal in any country to my knowledge. In fact, there are some very well known Bujinkan shihan that teach in the UK. Just find a Bujinkan dojo in your area and apply for admission.|||No martial art is illgeal however if you misuse a martial art you WILL be kicked out of your club and even possibly stopped from joining any other club it can be extremely dangerous so whatever you are tought do not i repeat do NOT misuse save it for when you can use on the mat or when someone attacks you|||No, there are several centres in the UK. I know there%26#039;s one in Croydon and one in Hammersmith.

Is ninjutsu a good martial art to learn?
I%26#039;m curious to know the different martial arts out there.|||Lol...
the only martial arts school out of Japan that teaches legitimate ninjutsu is the Bujinkan.....and even then, we study more Samurai-ryuha combat waza over ninjutsu-waza.
(Waza = technique)
The Bujinkan has nine seperate schools : 6 of which are Samurai combat schools, the other 3 are Ninjutsu combat or espionage/information gathering schools (the two that are espionage/info based are by no means loosely taught due to obvious reasons.)
Gyokko-ryū Kosshijutsu (玉虎流骨指術)
Kotō-ryū Koppōjutsu (虎倒流骨法術)
Shinden Fudō-ryū Dakentaijutsu (神伝不動流打拳体術)
Takagi Yōshin-ryū Jūtaijutsu (高木揚心流柔体術)
Kuki Shinden-ryū Happō Bikenjutsu (九鬼神伝流八法秘剣術)
Gikan-ryū Koppōjutsu (義鑑流骨法術)
Togakure-ryū Ninpō (戸隠流忍法)
Gyokushin-ryū Ninpō (玉心流忍法)
Kumogakure-ryū Ninpō (雲隠流忍法)
We work on a system loosely titled %26#039;taijutsu...which simply means body skill%26#039; or in laymans terms : fighting with the entire body in dynamic motion.....very much unlike the %26quot;rock %26#039;em sock %26#039;em robot%26#039; type of body motion ala TKD or Karate.
We work with throwing, locking, strikes, chokes, nerve and bone specific attacks, weapons work from absolutely ancient to modern (handguns for example), and a lot of energy work as well.
A complete listing of all skills within Togakure Ryu for example :
Seishin-teki kyōyō (spiritual refinement)
Taijutsu (unarmed combat)
Kyudo (archery)
Ninja ken (sword fighting)
Bōjutsu (stick and staff fighting)
Shurikenjutsu (throwing blades)
Sōjutsu (spear fighting)

It%26#039;s more, much more, than just fighting and stroking your ego.
Now, to support what a number of others have told you....there are a LOT of flakes, frauds and charlatans that rode the 1980%26#039;s %26quot;ninja boom%26quot; and came out with some seriously....ahem, interesting interpretations.....Ashida Kim (real name : Christopher Hunter), and Frank Dux for example.
They taught Karate in a black hooded gi and called it ninjitsu.....what a shame....and sadly, flakes like Haha Lung fell on THEIR coattails, like they weren%26#039;t bad enough.
Be very cautious from whom you study, and even amongst the Bujinkan....watch a few classes, I%26#039;ve seen a lot of bad habits and stupidity out of our people too.|||I seriously doubt it! The unarmed combat section on the syllabus is not very good, so it isn%26#039;t much use unless you plan on carrying your katana and shuriken around with you!|||Ninjitsu is the art of Assasins. Watch some classes and they may even give you a free lesson to see if you like it. Try a REAL martial art like Tae-Kwon-Do, Karate, Aikido, Judo, Jujitsu, Kung-Fu.
Stay away from the supposed arts that say they cn teach you to be invisible and walk on water.|||Honestly any Martial Art is good to learn for the lessons it teaches you.
True Ninjitsu has been lost for many generations, not that was ever wholly an art into itself anyway, most %26quot;ninjas%26quot; were cross trained in more than one art, and each clan had sort of it%26#039;s own style.
What is out now is a bastardized form of Ninjitsu and Ninpo, it can be fun to learn, it can be effective, but it is hard to find a place that has someone truly of merit teaching it. It is probably the number one place you find frauds. People like Akita Kim and the like. People who claim to be grand ninja masters and so on, but are really just average martial artists that threw in a few Ninja like things for flair.
Most places you take Ninjitsu, Ninjutsu, Ninpo and the like you are going to learn some really cool stuff, some of it very effective, some of it not so much. But probably all really enjoyable, and all will leave you walking away feeling like you are training to be a killing machine.
Unfortunately, Ninjitsu places are usually the biggest frauds out there, it is the one martial art that you will find the most bad apples, because everyone wants to be a ninja, but there is no true criteria for such a thing, or expertise in it, and frankly there never really was. Ninjas back in the day were the equivalent of covert ops groups now. Effective at stealth, espionage, and killing, but not through some mystical martial art, but use of good sound tactical principles, effective weaponry, and good physical shape.
So good luck with a pursuit in it, find a place you enjoy and try it out, just watch out for any %26quot;secret%26quot; type of thing. %26quot;Well no, you can%26#039;t watch a class, this art is so deadly I can%26#039;t go around showing it for free%26quot; and the like. Anyone who claims to actually make you a ninja, or that is super secretive about it, or claims to have killed people when he was an active assassin or some crap, is pretty much b.s.
